Winter Weather Advisory

By |January 16th, 2018|Categories: Important Notices|

US National Weather Service Lake Charles Louisiana

The two big stories for today are 1) Wintry Precipitation and 2) Freezing Temperatures and Low Wind Chills tonight.

** 1) WINTRY PRECIPITATION **
A *Winter Weather Advisory* is in effect for all areas through this evening, then continues until midnight for areas along and south of I-10.

As of 7 AM this morning, we’re already seeing a changeover from light rain to a mix of light freezing rain, ice pellets, and snow across the far northern extent of our forecast area from Jasper, TX through Leesville, LA to Alexandria. The mix of wintry precipitation will spread south through early afternoon, while areas north of I-10 will see a changeover to mainly snow. Accumulations are not expected to be significant, but snow amounts of one half to one inch will be possible across interior southeast Texas into central Louisiana. Farther south, snow amounts are expected to be less than one half inch. Ice accumulation is also expected to be minimal, not exceeding more than a few hundredths of an inch. Primary impacts for ice will be to bridges and elevated roadways. Precipitation will end from north to south this evening.

** 2) HARD FREEZE TONIGHT **
Temperatures will be steadily dropping through today as cold arctic air rushes in behind the front. A *Hard Freeze Warning* is in effect tonight through Wednesday morning as temperatures dip into

Mayor’s Corner

Hello citizens of Pine Forest, As we enter into the next few months, I would like to wish everyone a safe summer. Whether you are traveling to a destination or staying home, please watch out for children playing outdoors and extra traffic on the roads during the summer months. As you all know this is hurricane season. Take a little time to prepare for the possibility of a storm. Having a plan can make all the difference. I would also like to thank everyone for getting out to vote. I hope in my next two years, we will be able to accomplish all the plans we have for Pine Forest. The water and sewer work from our grant will begin soon on Lakeview Cutoff, from Nagel to McVey. Also work on drainage issues on Nagel are scheduled to start soon. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. As always please feel free to drop by city hall or attend our council meetings on the 2nd Monday of every month. Happy summer! Mayor Cathy Nagel
